The Racing
Racing for newcomers
We race according to the rules of the British Slot Car Racing Association (BSCRA). While we do not normally race home raceway cars such as Scalextric, we do encourage the racing of 'Production' classes in both 1/32 and 1/24 scales. These are ideally suited to newcomers to the sport, providing a cheap and driveable introduction. Visitors will normally be able to borrow a club car for their first visits, but are encouraged to buy their own car and hand controller as their interest in the sport increases. The club runs a small shop that supplies all of the necessary parts and accessories to get you going.
Club racing format
Slot car racing is a skillful, exciting and competitive sport, but above all - it is fun. Most racing on UK tracks is of the 'sprint' type where drivers race in short races of around 3 minutes. However, team races are also popular, with teams of drivers racing for anything up to 24 Hours. Apart from being the world's fastest motor sport (1/32 scale cars can travel at well over 70 miles per hour!), slot car racing is a sport that can be enjoyed indoors throughout the year.
You don't have to be the slot car racing equivalent of Lewis Hamilton to get enjoyment from racing at Roedale. Our club racing is designed to accommodate you, whatever level you aspire to. Racing is organised using an informal grading system to ensure that you race against drivers of similar ability. As your ability increases so does your grading. Club championships are raced in all classes over the best 5 of 6 rounds, each comprising the aggregate best 3 of 4 heats (i.e. one race on each of the four lanes). We also regularly organize team races with drivers handicapped according to past performance, the intention being that the race finishes with all cars on the same lap.
