Reg Church Trophy - Round 1
Winter finally hit us this week at the start of our 2019 Championship season - Round 1 of our Club Standard Class Championship for the prestigious Reg Church Memorial Trophy. With heavy snow forecast, just a mere handful of our toughest Members turned up, but we still managed to go ahead and have some decent racing.
Cars in this Class are Falcon/Hawk Retro powered BSCRA Genesis but with BTCC Saloon bodyshell (just the Betta Chevy Cruze in fact!) which makes it a very attractive, easy to drive Standard class for all and sundry. Half of the Rounds in this class are raced in the reverse track direction - and that is the way we went tonight, and on a nice clean track too!
The lack of numbers meant we had minimal marshalling, but that proved to be no problem as we had some pretty decent clean racing. Our current Class Champion somehow managed to leave his Genesis car at home and ended up racing a 'non-legal' car which resulted in him not scoring any
points for his efforts! Times overall were not particularly quick but Phil H (all the way up from Swanage tonight!) took the top spot in qualifying ahead of non-scoring Ben, with Ian getting the better of a close thing between Dave and Chris.
Our custom Race Sheet once again allowed a bit of juggling to give us just a single Bonus Point Final. Phil had a fairly easy run to take the win ahead of Ian with Chris just beating Dave by fractions for the last points - Dave at least having the pleasure of an 'A' Final!
So, a good start to our Championship year for Phil H with a maximum points win tonight.
